Don’t be tricky

Don’t wait in ambush

Don’t make gods into demons

Don’t rejoice in others’ pain

Uncertainty, by Brigid Normand

When circumstances change abruptly

or the world itself changes,

when you no longer know

where you might be

or how life might be

a month from now

a year from now.

can you allow the uncertainty

to rise and fall like the tide

sweeping the beach of your mind

washing it clean of the

flotsam and jetsam

of your thoughts?

Can you allow it to leave

a flat smooth stretch of sand

just for a while,

or to shape delicate patterns-

traces of the lapping waves of time-

that will disappear when the water returns!

Can you trust that with each tide

you can be renewed,

that with each tide

you can begin again?

Can you sit with this moving water,

the manifest energy of the moon?

Can you sit with the turning of the earth

with the coming and going of the wind

with the sun breaks and clouds?

Can you become the tide,

be one with the flow?

Can you live into the knowing

that uncertainty

is just the sea you swim in?
